2024+ Toyota Tacoma Infotainment System Upgrade: Is it Worth it?

Can the Ottocast OttoAibox P3 Pro give me the Android head-unit experience I miss from my 3rd Gen Tacoma without replacing the factory infotainment system in my 2025 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter? In this real-world Ottocast P3 Pro review, I test the CarPlay AI box on a 4th Gen Toyota Tacoma and see whether it can bring YouTube, Disney+, Android apps, web browsing and more to Toyota’s factory 14-inch screen.

The P3 Pro adds a standalone Android 13 / OttoDrive 3.0 environment without replacing the factory head unit. I test YouTube, Disney+, the built-in web browser, AI voice control, App Hub updates, phone integration, CarPlay / Android Auto switching, secondary-display output, and the three internet options: Wi-Fi, Nano SIM and Ottocast CloudSIM.

One surprise: the P3 Pro can browse the web directly on the factory Tacoma screen. My old 3rd Gen aftermarket Android head unit could do a lot, but normal web browsing was one thing it could not do.

For internet access, I try Toyota’s vehicle Wi-Fi, which prompts me to start a trial plan, then connect the P3 Pro through my phone hotspot. I also cover the Nano SIM slot and CloudSIM option for a more self-contained connection.

The P3 Pro can switch between its standalone Android environment, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and you can also pair your phone directly to the P3 Pro for calls and Bluetooth audio.

One other limitation: the P3 Pro has HDMI output, not HDMI input. That means it can feed a compatible secondary display, but it does not replace the direct HDMI-input capability I had on my old head unit.
